About the Author

Alan Spira MD, DTM & H. is Diplomat of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Tropical Medicine, the world's premier tropical medicine institute. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and a member of both the American Society of Tropical Medicine and the International Society of Travel Medicine. He has both worked and taught numerous times as a physician abroad in countries including Cambodia, England, Honduras, India, Israel, the Philippines, and Tanzania. As a physician for the Flying Samaritans, he also treats patients in Baja, California. In Addition he has also served as a medical delegate to China and Mongolia.

Alan Spira is a member of the Undersea and Hyperbolic Medicine Society. He is board-certified in emergency medicine and serves on the emergency medicine faculty at the Northridge Medical Center. Dr. Spira is the Director of the Travel Medicine Center in Beverly Hills, California.
