Kevin Kurt-Lehman wrote in his article Why Grind Your Own Grain? "Health reasons top the list for many home grinders. During refining and processing in commercial mills, the flour can lose most of its goodness and wholesomeness." Mr. Kurt-Lehman coninues, " The bran and germ, where much of the fiber and many of nutrients are concentrated, are often stripped away. The heat of commercial mills destroys many vitamins with their heat. Fresh-ground wheat flour contains approximately 26 valuable vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, vitamin E, folic acid, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc."
Our mill is a great family grain mill for home use. If you want to fine grind small quantities of wheat berries, oats, rye or barley to a flour consistency, this is the flour grain mill for you. Our grain mill is also perfect for spices, poppy-seeds and linseeds. Precision made in Germany, the grain mill has a metal housing, highly burnished inside and out. A steel milling cone assures a dust-free milling result, preserves aroma and all vital ingredients. Our grain mill does not heat your grains and seeds and doesn't affect flavor as with ceramic cones. By simply turning the white knob (shown below) you can adjust from flour-like milling to rough grinding - even during the milling process. Our grain mill is 10" high by 7" deep by 2" wide. The 6" long handle provides for effortless milling. The grain mill can be securely clamped on shelves up to 1-1/4" thick. Mill output for dry grains (wheat, rye, oats, barley) rough-ground is approximately 4 oz/min and flour-like fine is 2 ounces per minute. Grain mill output for poppy seeds, crushed is approximately 2 oz/min; for linseed rough-ground output is approximately 0.5 oz/minute.
